Alternatively, you can also launch the Time Machine utility from Mac Recovery Mode. To restore data from a Time Machine backup, you can click Apple > System Settings > General > Time Machine, and follow the instructions to restore data and files to your Mac. To reinstall macOS without losing data, you can restore data from the backups you made in Step 1. If you intend to sell your Mac and want to erase all data on it, you should follow the operation in Step 3 to wipe all data first. Reinstalling macOS with the Mac Recovery system will not remove your personal data. Follow the on-screen instructions to install a new copy of macOS Sonoma, Ventura, Monterey, or Big Sur, onto your Mac. Select Macintosh HD when you are asked which disk you want to install macOS. If your Mac’s current OS is Monterey, Big Sur, or another older macOS version, it will show the corresponding current OS you can install. On the Recovery Mode screen, you can select Reinstall macOS Sonoma or Reinstall macOS Ventura and click Continue. Start to Reinstall macOS (Sonoma/Ventura) You will be taken back to the macOS Utilities window. Close Disk Utility after the disk is erased.Click the Erase button to start erasing your Mac. ![]()
